Highly sensitive automation networks increasingly require protection against unauthorised external access. Whenever it is necessary to control access to automation networks, the FL SEC SGW GT/GT Security Gateway from Phoenix Contact can be implemented as a distributed firewall module for control cabinets. This protects against unauthorised access and attacks, as well as against faulty addressing.
With data rates of up to 1000 MBps on RJ45 and SFP ports, the module includes a Web server and SNMP agent so that users can perform diagnostics, maintenance and configuration tasks through the network. Remote access via the RS232 interface can be used for on-site operation. The extensive security concept is easy to configure using security levels such as high, medium or low. The filter rules required for this purpose are preconfigured in the gateway and can easily be chosen using the Web interface and the corresponding menus of the unit itself.
Typical automation applications such as Profinet communications or Modbus/TCP can be enabled for general use. Experts also have the option of editing the filter functions. The security gateway can be implemented flexibly in networks based on copper cables or pluggable FL SFP fibre-optic modules set for multimode or single mode with transmission ranges of up to 80 km.
