VCOs operate up to 3,6 GHz

20 January 2010 Telecoms, Datacoms, Wireless, IoT

M/A-COM Technology Solutions has released a range of surface mount voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) modules operating from 45 MHz to 3,6 GHz. They incorporate a fundamental single-ended oscillator design optimised for low phase noise and highly linear tuning characteristics. The modules are targeted at designs for point-to-point wireless systems, base stations, CATV, broadband and private mobile radio (PMR).

The design incorporates output isolation to provide flat output power and reduce the frequency pulling effects of the load VSWR. The output circuit also includes a lowpass filter for harmonic rejection. Power supply and tuning voltage requirements are in the 3 V to 5 V range. For applications up to 3,6 GHz, the VCOs are available in the LSM1 package style measuring 3,2 square centimetres. These packages provide electrical shielding and are easy to assemble using standard pick-and-place equipment.
