The EKI-2541M from Advantech is designed to convert Ethernet networks to fibre networks by transparently converting Ethernet signals to optical signals. The advantages of fibre-optics include wide bandwidth, EMI immunity and long-distance transmissions.
The converter is suitable for ‘fibre to building’ applications at central offices or local sites. It supports MDI/MDIX auto detection, with no need to use crossover wires. It can work normally from -10°C to 60°C and accepts a wide voltage range from +12 to 48 V d.c. It also provides 3000 V d.c. surge (EFT) protection against over-voltage, making it suitable for harsh operating environments.
Aside from its standard features, the EKI-2541M also has the LFP (link fault pass-through) feature. By using the internal jumper to enable the LFP function, the device will force the link to shut down when it is noticed that the other link has failed, giving the application software a chance to react to the situation.
