u-blox’ new LEA-6R GPS module provides 100% coverage, combining the u-blox 6 positioning engine with u-blox’ SFDR dead reckoning technology.
Dead reckoning supplements GPS satellite position information with heading and distance data provided by additional sensors. When GPS satellites are out of sight, location is extrapolated using distance and angle information from the gyroscope and speed pulse sensors. The speed pulse sensor signal can be received either as a digital tick signal or as messages via the serial interface. The gyroscope can be monitored via the SPI interface.
Dead reckoning enables accurate navigation even in locations with poor or absent GPS signals such as tunnels, indoor parking facilities and deep urban canyons. In addition, dead reckoning effectively eliminates the impact of multipath effects in urban canyon environments. LEA-6R modules are based on AEC-Q100 qualified GPS chips and are manufactured in ISO/TS 16949 certified sites. Qualification tests on LEA-6R modules are performed as stipulated in the ISO16750 standard: 'Road vehicles – Environmental conditions and testing for electrical and electronic equipment'.
The module’s u-blox 6 position engine is capable of navigating down to -160 dBm and -146 dBm cold-start. The hybrid GPS/SBAS engine boasts a 1 Hz combined DR+GPS navigation rate and anti-jamming technology.
