Ethernet transceivers operate in harsh environments

The KSZ8041NLJ from Micrel is a 10Base-T/100Base-TX physical layer transceiver that supports the extended temperature range of -40°C to +125°C. The device provides MII/RMII interfaces to transmit and receive data. To complement this device, the company also rolled out the KSZ8851-16MLLJ, a 10Base-T/100Base-TX integrated MAC-PHY controller that supports the same temperature range. The controller has an 8/16-bit generic host interface. Both products are suitable for industrial, automotive and military applications with extreme operating environments.

Auto MDI/MDIX crossover support eliminates the need for cross-over cable, while the LinkMD TDR-based cable diagnostics allows identification of common cabling problems, including those not addressed by IEEE standards. With integration of an LDO controller on-chip, the devices are offered in small package sizes (32-pin QFN for the KSZ8041NLJ and 48-pin LQFP for the KSZ8851-16MLLJ) to streamline system design.
