3G/HSDPA modem

28 September 2011 Telecoms, Datacoms, Wireless, IoT

The latest addition to Otto Wireless’ range of industrial GSM engines is the SIM5216E-DUAL I/F modem. This latest SIMCom-powered offering provides a versatile approach, catering for USB or serial interface in the same device.

Based on the popular SIMCom SIM5216E GSM engine, the modem boasts an HSDPA downlink of 3,6 Mbps and a 3G uplink of 384 Kbps. With fallback to 2G technology (EDGE and GPRS), the modem is well suited as an after-market fitment device for a variety of applications where downlink speed is required. An example of such an application is a jukebox, which needs to send playlist information periodically to a server, therefore not requiring particularly high speed on the uplink. However, when new song lists/tables need to be downloaded from the server, the modem will step up its speed and transfer this information on the downlink at a maximum HSDPA speed of 3,6 Mbps.

The modem also features an audio jack, making it voice-ready. Included in the standard pack with the device is a serial cable, USB cable, power supply and audio cable. No antenna is included, but Otto Wireless Solutions stocks a wide range of GSM antenna options.
