Keops Isis Industrial Information Systems is to introduce a radio frequency identification (RFID) solution that is expected to replace bar coding. The company's RF Identification solution is written in Microsoft Visual Studio. Developed in conjunction with electronics manufacturer, Texas Instruments, it is earmarked for commercial release in the fourth quarter of this year.
Besides aiming to sell the new RFID technology to its local clients within the industrial information marketplace, the company says it also plans a large export drive through parent company, Canadian-based Keops Technologies.
The system, which the company claims is far cheaper and more effective than bar coding, is said to be ideally suited to a large range of applications, including access control, baggage handling, parcel tracking, library systems, logistical information systems, etc.
Anton Kotze, Project Manager at Keops Isis, said: "The potential market is massive. This technology, albeit based on existing technology, significantly lowers costs and boosts efficiencies far beyond many of the current systems available. It is also a better alternative to bar coding. It is cheaper, faster and far more accurate," he said. "The company has effectively taken existing RF technology and written a software solution that enables it to fit almost any application".
