Bluetooth Smart module

17 April 2013 Telecoms, Datacoms, Wireless, IoT

Bluegiga Technologies announced the BLE113, a new addition to its Bluetooth Smart product family, offering 30% lower peak power consumption and 30% smaller size than previous-generation modules. In addition to a hardware I²C interface simplifying connectivity to MEMS peripheral sensors, the BLE113 includes features such as onboard application hosting, flexible peripheral interfaces and very low-power sleep modes.

The module has the capability to host custom applications. The Bluegiga Bluetooth Smart SDK allows applications to be developed for the BLE113 with the BGScript scripting language. In addition, Bluetooth Smart profiles can be quickly developed with the Bluegiga Profile Toolkit.

The 9,15 x 15,75 x 1,9 mm module is Bluetooth version 4.0, single-mode compliant, and supports master and slave modes with up to eight connections. Its integrated Bluetooth Smart stack supports GAP, GATT, L2CAP and SMP protocols and Bluetooth Smart profiles, and onboard application hosting is possible for standalone operation

The radio offers transmit power of 0 dBm to -23 dBm and receiver sensitivity of -93 dBm. Current consumption is 18,2 mA in transmit mode (at 0 dBm) and 14,3 mA in receive mode, with a sleep mode consuming 0,4 μA. Peripheral interfaces include UART, SPI, I²C, PWM and GPIO, as well as a 12-bit ADC; the UART is also used as the host interface.
