Patch-on-top GPS module

7 August 2013 Telecoms, Datacoms, Wireless, IoT

GlobalTop announced the release of its latest patch-on-top GPS module (featuring integrated patch antenna), the GMS-HPR. The compact device utilises MediaTek’s latest generation MT3339 chipset, which achieves sensitivity of –165 dBm and very fast time-to-first-fix, ensuring ultra-precise positioning under low-reception, high-velocity conditions.

The module features a maximum 12 multi-tone active interference canceller, designed to reject external RF interference coming from other active components on the same PCB such as Wi-Fi, GSM/GPRS, 3G/4G or Bluetooth. It supports 210 PRN channels with 66 search channels and 22 simultaneous tracking channels.

In addition, the GMS-HPR supports various location and navigation applications, including autonomous GPS, SBAS (can only be enabled when update rate is less than or equal to 5 Hz) ranging (WAAS, EGNO, GAGAN, MSAS) and AGPS.

The device is well suited for low power consumption requirements; current consumption is 25 mA during acquisition and 20 mA during tracking, with respective power consumption of 82 mW and 66 mW. 1 pps timing support for timing applications (10 ns jitter) is also incorporated into the module as standard. These technical features make the module an appropriate choice for portable equipment.

The module also features EASY (self generated orbit prediction for instant positioning fix), Alwayslocate (an intelligent algorithm for advanced periodic mode operation for additional power saving) and an embedded logger function.
