By eliminating the need for an extra shielding board, RedBear, a Bluetooth Smart Arduino specialist based in Hong Kong, says it has developed a compact solution for makers and professional developers that is as little as half the cost of previous two-board solutions and can be programmed and updated over-the-air from Bluetooth Smart Ready portable devices such as smartphones and tablets.
Exploiting one of Nordic Semiconductor’s nRF8001 connectivity ICs, the single-board ‘Blend’ platform is ArduinoAtHeart certified and comes in the miniaturised Blend Micro format measuring 43,4 x 18,5 x 4,5 mm, and the more functional Blend board at 77,2 x 58,4 x 20 mm.
The system also natively supports (with no extra wiring) all Nordic Semiconductor nRF8001 compatible reference designs, development tools and software development kits. The nRF8001 SDK contains many different application examples including human interface device, UART over Bluetooth low energy, heart rate monitor, temperature and proximity.
