The M66 is the latest 2 G module from machine-to-machine (M2M) specialist Quectel.
Its compact form factor, low power consumption and extended temperature range make it well suited for vehicle tracking, industrial PDA, personal tracking, wireless POS, smart metering, telematics and other M2M applications. The device is supplied in LCC castellation packaging small enough that it can easily be embedded into compact end equipment.
Based on the latest MediaTek 2 G chipset, the M66 offers optimal SMS, data and audio transmission even in the harshest of environments. Data transmission supports GPRS multi-slot class 12 (85,6 Kbps downlink, 85,6 Kbps uplink) PBCCH support, coding schemes CS 1, 2, 3, 4, USSD, as well as TCP, UDP, PPP, FTP, HTTP, SMTP, MMS, SSL, HTTPS and SMTPS protocols.
Audio services include speech codec modes half rate (HR), full rate (FR), enhanced full rate (EFR) and adaptive multi rate (AMR), echo arithmetic, echo cancellation, echo suppression as well as noise reduction.
The M66 offers Bluetooth support fully compliant with specification 3.0, offering data transmission as well as audio connectivity compliant with Windows, Android and iOS platforms. Support for Open CPU allows engineers to reduce costs further by running the application on the module without an external CPU.
Standard Hayes commands, in addition to proprietary AT commands, allow for access to the GSM, GPRS, Bluetooth and audio functionality. Pin remapping opens up the possibility for flow control lines to be utilised as GPIOs, and one analog-to-digital channel is available. A second UART allows for a Quectel GNSS module to be connected to the M66, allowing for single-UART microcontrollers to be used.
The module offers QuecLocator location-based services, jamming detection, QuecFOTA firmware-over-the-air updating, and is fully supported locally and internationally.
