Quectel’s L86 is a compact GNSS POT (patch on top) module with an embedded 18,4 x 18,4 x 4,0 mm patch antenna. Designed to be compatible with the company’s L80 GPS module, the L86 utilises MediaTek’s new-generation GNSS chipset MT3333.
Housed in an LCC package with integrated patch antenna, the module performs well in both acquisition and tracking. Combining advanced AGPS called EASY (Embedded Assist System) and proven AlwaysLocate technology, the L86 fully meets industrial standards. EASY technology ensures it can calculate and predict orbits automatically using ephemeris data (up to three days) stored in internal Flash memory, allowing it to fix position quickly even at indoor signal levels with low power consumption.
With AlwaysLocate technology, the module can adaptively adjust the on/off time to achieve a balance between positioning accuracy and power consumption according to environmental and motion conditions. It supports automatic antenna switching between the internal patch antenna and an external active antenna, during which switchover it maintains positioning functionality.
With its tiny design, high precision and sensitivity, the L86 is suitable for a broad range of M2M applications such as portable device, automotive, personal tracking, security and industrial PDA, and is especially suitable for special applications like GPS mouse and OBD.
