Nordic Semiconductor announced the availability of its HomeKit solution for the nRF51 series Bluetooth Smart SoCs (systems-on-chip).
Meeting the HomeKit technical specifications, the complete solution offers simplified development and accelerated time to market for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch enabled connected home products like door locks and thermostats.
Combined with the nRF51 SoC, the software development kit (SDK) provides developers with a solution that meets all requirements on size, power consumption and performance. This highly optimised solution enables single-chip implementations running HomeKit Accessory Protocol (HAP) and application firmware.
Released with iOS 8 last year, HomeKit is a framework for the creation of products and apps that will give a secure and consistent user experience when using an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to interact with smart products in our homes. Such products could include LED lighting control, climate control and other household appliances. HomeKit supports voice control via Siri and HomeKit enabled apps.
