SIMCom Wireless Solutions announced the launch of a new GSM/GPRS + GNSS module, the SIM868. The device features quad-band GSM/GPRS network support, as well as integrated GPS and Bluetooth functionality. The SIM868 provides optimal performance in fleet management, wireless payment, tracking and mHealth applications.
Based on an IoT specified chip, this is one of the smallest of SIMCom’s GSM/GPRS + GNSS modules in the SIM800 family, which features a common 17,6 x 15,7 x 2,3 mm form factor. The compact design with LCC and LGA pads can save both time and costs for customers to develop GNSS enabled applications. The operational temperature is -40°C ~85°C and a wealth of application interfaces – including multiple UARTs, SD, GPIO and more – is catered for.
In addition to GSM/GPRS and GPS functionality, SIM868 also has voice, MMS and Bluetooth support. Down the line, plans are for it to support dual SIM card, which will enable terminal customers to conveniently select between service providers; features which are particularly useful during roaming and poor signal coverage areas where support for multiple operators provides a level of fallback/redundancy.
Having already been submitted for CE and FCC certifications, SIM868 targets a global market. Its footprint is compatible with SIM800C-DS and SIM800C, empowering developers and integrators looking for fast-to-market products.
