SCOUT is a device for digital voice terminals (such as ISDN or PBX systems). Manufactured by Infineon Technologies it combines a voice codec, including an analog front end, with a digital ISDN or UPN transceiver on a single chip.
The transceiver in SCOUT-S(X) implements the subscriber access functions for an ISDN terminal connected to a four-wire S/T interface. The transceiver in SCOUT-P allows connection to a two-wire UPN line. The codec performs encoding, decoding, and filtering functions in addition to tone generation (ringing, audible feedback tones, and DTMF signal). An analog front end offers three analog inputs and two analog outputs with programmable amplifiers.
