Zartek two-way radios are powerful and small and, according to local distributor N&Z Instrumentation & Control, are extremely affordable. The 500 mW power rating gives a range varying from 500 m indoors to more than 10 km outdoors depending on terrain and environment.

The Zartek group communication radio does not require a licence and there are no connection or airtime charges. One can talk for any length of time on the 190 public radio service channels, to any individual who has selected the same channel, as long as they are within range.

These are sophisticated radios that have numerous functions including a hands-free 'walk & talk' VOX feature, 2-memory channels, channel scan and Roger beep. Designed in the USA for South African conditions, the manufacturer says they are sturdy, lightweight radios and meet ICASA specifications. They are the ideal communication tool for industrial, commercial or recreational purposes.
