M/A-COM offers a range of standard, low cost surface mount mixers that can be used in a wide variety of applications such as modulators, phase detectors and frequency synthesizers, as upconverters in radio front ends and as up and downconverters in base stations and radio links. They are ideal for use in GSM 900 and GSM 1800 systems, PCS systems, broadband CATV headend systems, private mobile radio (PMR) and point-to-multipoint applications.
These new mixers use a double balanced mixer (DBM) design on an FR-4 substrate with a high temperature plastic cover, in a surface mount nonhermetic package. The terminals are plated with SN60 solder, guaranteed to meet MIL-STD-202 Method 208. M/A-COM has carefully selected specific cores and diodes for each design which are claimed to provide superior wideband performance at a low price. The ‘window’ in the cover allows the aqueous wash to drain thoroughly during wash cycles. Five models are currently available.
