3,3 V two-channel and four-channel PCI UARTs

Exar has added two new low power 3,3 V universal asynchronous receiver transmitter (UARTs), the XR17L152 (two-channel), and XR17L154 (four-channel) PCI Bus interface communications devices to its series. These 3,3 V PCI Bus devices are compliant to industry specifications and targeted at portable communication devices, point-of-sale (POS), system management and serial port solutions for systems based on CompactPCI, PMC, VME and PC/104Plus industry standards.

The XR17L152/154 supports a 32-bit data bus that facilitates the transfer of more data bytes during each receiver or transmitter interrupt service reducing CPU bandwidth requirements. They run at full 33 MHz clock speed (four times faster than the conventional ISA bus). They also provide a direct interface to the system bus eliminating the need for a PCI-Local bus bridge and as a result reducing system cost, and board space requirements. The devices' global interrupt source register provides the status of each receiver and transmitter channel establishing a more efficient use of the operating system's device driver and increasing overall system performance.
