High linearity RF driver amplifier released

7 April 2004 Telecoms, Datacoms, Wireless, IoT

EiC Corporation, the company that pioneered InGaP/GaAs MMIC amplifiers, has released a new RF MMIC power amplifier for the 3 G and base station market.

The ECG099B has high linearity - typically 41 dBm output IP3 at 1,9 GHz. It has internal temperature compensated bias circuitry and can operate from a single 5 V supply as low as 3,0 V (P1 dB drops to typ 16 dBm, noise figure drops to 4,0 dB).

Even higher P1dB and output IP3 can be achieved by increasing the voltage up to 5,5 V. While it excels over narrowband matching (centre frequency ±5 to 10%), it can outperform darlingtons when matched for broader performance utilising splitters/combiners. One example for a single device matched for 1,96 to 2,4 GHz will have a P1 dB >23,5 dBm over the entire band. When optimised for narrower bands it has a P1 dB that is typically 24 dBm or over 25,5 dBm when operated at 5,5 V.

It can be matched easily with only a few components for narrow bands ranging from 10 to 2500 MHz. OIP3's >48 dBm have been achieved in some applications using additional tuning.
