Miniature modules make wireless easy

Local firm Polygon Technologies has introduced a range of RF transceiver modules to bridge a gap in the market for simple RF links between devices.

A pair of these Polygon RF-OEM modules can create a seamless transparent serial link. The modules can be mounted on a PCB and, says the company, take all the hassle out of developing a wireless link for embedded systems. The RF-OEM module measures only 18 x 24,8 mm and has an industry-standard DIP footprint.

The RF-232 product includes all the features of the RF-OEM module but also contains dedicated RS232 level translation, DB9 connector, status LEDs and on-board regulation circuitry (operates from any unregulated 5 to 12 V supply). Both the RF-232 and RF-OEM modules are 100% configurable in terms of baudrate, address and frequency channel. The modules are capable of 10 dBm of output power, providing an outdoor (line-of-sight) range of 300 m using omni-directional antennas. All modules are currently available in the 868-916 MHz frequency range, while a 433 MHz version is on its way. The modules have a maximum data throughput rate of 14 Kbps.

The nRF905-CB1 board is a miniature carrier board for the popular nRF905 chip from Nordic Semiconductor. This module provides a simple way to interface to the nRF905 chip, with all impedance matching and peripheral components already included on the module. All digital interface pins are provided in a DIP compatible 14-pin footprint, relieving the designer of the difficulties of fine-pitch soldering, PCB layout and impedance matching. The nRF905-CB1 module is included in the design of both the RF-232 and RF-OEM modules.

The company says that these modules provide a range of easy solutions for product designers, which improves the time-to-market.
