2,5 Gbps single-chip laser transceiver

New from Micrel is the SY88236L/AL, a single-supply 3,3 V, 2,5 Gbps integrated burst mode laser driver and post amplifier that targets GEPON and GPON ONU/ONT module applications. The burst-mode driver provides a 2,5 ns transmit enable and disable time. It can deliver modulation current up to 85 mA and bias current up to 70 mA to support high launch transmit power. The driver’s high compliance voltage makes it suitable for DC-coupling to the laser.
The device features infinite bias current hold time between bursts, and power monitoring such as bias monitoring and modulation monitor, while the post amplifier features RSSI. The post amplifier can detect signals with amplitude as low as 5 mVPP and has the option to output either a loss-of-signal (LOS) or signal-detect (SD). The SY88236L comes with internal input termination while the SY88236L/AL does not come with internal input termination. Both solutions are available in a 32-pin 5 x 5 mm MLF package.
