austriamicrosystems has complemented its range of UHF RFID reader ICs for Gen 2 applications with the AS3992. The chip includes advanced features such as programmable DRM (dense reader mode) filters, predistortion and a receiver sensitivity of -86 dBm. With an architecture optimised specifically for RFID, the device has benefits over non-ideal RF transceiver architectures in terms of performance, lower complexity and less power consumption. The AS3992 is pin to pin compatible with the existing ‘Simply Gen 2’ portfolio, enabling customers to achieve a balance of performance versus cost with a family of products, which can be used without the need of changing the board. The IC is available in a 9 x 9 mm QFN 64 package.
