Moving to provide increased convenience for a rapidly growing worldwide customer base, Motorola has announced the release of its new GP344 and GP388 professional two-way radios. According to the company, the sleek and compact radios were developed to address the needs of customers who require small and lightweight communications devices. They are some 30% lighter than Motorola's traditional GP series but maintain superb functionality. They are particularly ideal for those involved in covert and customer-facing operations such as the security and retail industries.
"In fact, size does count in these types of industries," says Nik Patel, business manager at Motorola Commercial, Government & Industrial Solutions Sector (CGISS): Middle East and Africa. "The radios are significantly smaller than traditional models. They are very discreet, making them ideal for covert situations; increasing the safety of staff or for providing improved convenience and productivity in markets such as retail and hospitality."
Looking at some of the features on offer, Patel says that the Escalert (the sound of an alert tone that increases when a call is not answered) and Lone Worker (an emergency mode that is activated if the user does not respond to a warning signal) features look set to become mandatory options for those working in high-risk environments. The radios are available in two models: the GP344, the 'small popular radio' and the GP388, the 'small versatile radio'.
The GP344 offers operator-friendly controls and many features that include Private Line and 5-tone selective signalling, X-PAND voice compression, voice operated transmission, adjustable power levels and call-forward options. All these features plus a 14-character alphanumeric dot-matrix display make the GP388 an ideal solution for companies looking for increased versatility.
Recognisable icons on the display clearly denote the features and commands. The display can also show an incoming caller's name, allowing them to immediately communicate vital information without wasting time identifying themselves. This is extremely helpful in large communication networks and an important feature in critical situations. The GP388 radio can store commonly used contact lists, individual unit IDs and phone numbers for instant access. There are programmable buttons which will call up favourite features, allowing time-conscious professionals to become more efficient with the radio.
"Speaking of time, the GP388 even has a built-in talk-time clock to keep a check on time-limited calls," notes Patel. "And once again, the radios are built to the highest industry standards of reliability and ruggedness, ensuring years of worry-free use in even the harshest of conditions."
In line with Motorola's other professional radio products, top-quality accessories are available spanning lightweight headsets to surveillance kits and remote speaker microphones. The radios are available through Motorola's nationwide authorised dealer network.
